[ARCHIVED] More Information Regarding 9th Positive Case (Updated 4/20)

Media Release

FROM: Mary Schell, PIO, Converse County Emergency Management Agency
Phone 358-6880

On 4/20/2020 Converse County Public Health has completed the contact investigation with the assistance of Safeway. All video footage from the days in question has been reviewed. Following CDC guidelines for contact investigations, none of the other employees or customers met the guidelines for quarantine. Safeway has instituted employee health checks as a precaution and Converse County Public Health continues to monitor the situation. The client had very limited contact with the public on April 13th and 14th. At this time risk to the public is deemed to be low. Safeway has enacted the following steps:

  • A 3rd party cleaning company was brought in to thoroughly clean and sanitize the entire store.
  • Safeway continues their policy of cleaning and sanitizing the store every 3 hours; the front registers are cleaned and sanitized every hour.
  • Safeway has implemented employee health checks.
  • All employees have been directed to wear a face covering at all times while in the store.
  • Working in conjunction with Converse County Public Health to identify any close contacts among employees and follow quarantine guidelines for those individuals.

When Public Health receives notification of a positive COVID test, we speak with that individual to conduct a Contact Investigation. We look specifically at anyone that this person would have had contact with since their symptoms started, and also 48 hours prior to symptoms starting. We look at the length of time and also the distance between people. Following the guidelines from the CDC and the Wyoming Dept of Health, we determine who we would need to speak with about contact with a positive case. We then contact those individuals and provide guidance/orders for quarantine. If you are not contacted by our agency, you are assumed to not meet qualifications for quarantine.

As a reminder, please continue to wear face coverings or masks when in public, maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet, wash or sanitize your hands and personal items often, and only go out for essential needs.
